A magnificent palace with pointed turrets, jagged crests, tall lancet windows, standing on the shore of a pond – like a living illustration to the novels of Walter Scott. In the center of Russia, it looks unexpected and strange. It's like someone wanted to play knights, plunging into the atmosphere of a medieval castle. He stands solemnly and aloof on a high hill. A sandy path runs from terrace to terrace and ends at the pier, where mythological griffins stand – a symbol of the glory and greatness of the former owners of Marfino. Pushkin, the uncle of the great poet.
During the war of 1812, the old manor burned down, set on fire by French looters. The new owners of Marfino, the Counts of Panina, gave the palace a majestic appearance in the "Tudor" style, which has survived to the present day.
Since 1933, a sanatorium of the Ministry of Defense has been operating on the territory of the estate. Diseases of the cardiovascular system are mainly treated here.
